Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP)
- The electrical submersible pump (ESP) is a versatile artificial-lift method designed for efficiently lifting moderate to high volumes of fluids from wellbores. Its modular design, consisting of a multistage centrifugal pump, three-phase induction motor, seal-chamber section, power cable, and surface controls, allows for customization to suit various well conditions. The components are typically hung from the wellhead, with the pump on top and the motor attached below, though there are specialized applications where this configuration is inverted.ESP systems offer several advantages, including adaptability to highly deviated wells, minimal subsurface space requirements, quiet and safe operation, high-volume capacity, and compatibility with pressure maintenance and secondary recovery operations.
